Our first 100% home produced dinner

Last night we sat down to dinner, I'd put a pot roast in the slow cooker earlier in the day. Then we spent the afternoon down by the water, G put out a fishing net to try his luck again. Was great to get home and have dinner

Anyway, we ate:

goat (shot and butchered by G)

some small Ilam hardy potatoes, a mix of coloured carrots and some broccoli from the garden



Then we had some strawberries for dessert.

N.B. I like crab apple jelly with meat, probably just as well as I have a cupboard full of small jars!

Our first dinner with everything produced by ourselves, very satisfying, as well as being tasty.

  1. Isn't it wonderful when you haven't had to go to the shop and buy anything. I think homegrown veges taste way better and you don't have to pay someone for them. Last Christmas I only had to buy cream everything else came off the farm. Slow cookers are brilliant. And today was a wonderful day - again!

  2. Well done - what a great sense of achievement that meal must have given you. Next thing, you'll be cooking it on a woodburner, then you'll be truly self-sufficient ;)

  4. Hi Liz, I think what I enjoy the most is that the home grown veges are always fresh, apart from being grown without chemical sprays etc. I use my slow cooker heaps, even now I'm not working, it's great as it means you can get on with things during the day knowing dinner is already prepared.

    Hi Joanna, thanks, yes I'd just love a woodburner, but no room for one in our accommodation at the moment.

    Yes I used to watch it! I don't remember they were very successful at producing for themselves were they? But even back then I liked the idea of their lifestyle.

  6. Hello - just found your blog via a Joanna's blog (I think!). I too have just had a home grown meal - but not as filling as yours - scambled eggs, with chard and broad beans followed by raspberries. And for lunch it was veg soup with all home-grown veg and the stock came fom one of our cockerels .... and that was cooked on the woodburner ;-) ..... which is where the marmalade is bubbling now.

    mmmm raspberries, those are something I want to grow, will have to wait until our winter (June/July) before I can put them in.
    Feels very satisfying to produce your own food doesn't it? Good one.
