G dug up some more of our potatoes and while they are not all that big in size due to lack of water, we got a reasonable crop from the area he cleared. Here is a barrow full of Rua:
oh how yummy! one of my favourite veggies. It took us weeks of eating wee potatoes to realise it was cos of the drought! DOh! We were so sure we'd fed the bed well and all that and were stumped. Dafties!
Hiya, yes watering them heaps would have made a bit of difference I think. It's all a learning curve, hopefully next year we'll be a bit better prepared and set up for collecting more water (including our 'grey' water).
Hi Rosie, I envy your polytunnel! That's great you managed to see your way through to the new season.
Hi Matron, we've bagged them all up (there were more.. not just the one barrow load!!) and have in our garage. Hopefully they won't go bad on us. Will have to keep a close eye on them.
Quite right Dr Mum. They're also excellent for potato salads, no cutting or peeling required. The little purple urenikas are great for this and have lovely nutty flavour.

I've just eaten the last of last year's crop and the first of this years as peeping through in the polytunnel :-)

A Barrow full!! How are you going to store all those? Looks like you have nice, clean sandy soil there. My potatoes come up clogged in mud!

But the little ones are the tastiest.
