This hibiscus (I think it is a Fijian one) has just started flowering and is beautiful. The flowers only last for one day (especially when it's windy!).
And we've had a lot of wind and tons of rain, the rain gauge is totally full from the dump of rain with tropical cyclone Wilma that has just passed over the North Island of NZ. So much rain that our pond overflowed, through the overflow pipe, but also over the driveway..not so good as we've lost a bit of the stones off the surface. Apart from that though, no other damage, the chook house remained standing, and the ground has had a bit of a watering, and the water tank is looking a bit more healthy.
From nothing to this in 24 hours! |
That's a lot of rain. I like the hibiscus. It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe farmer up the road measured 250mls here! Amazing. We lost a few stones off our driveway from our overflowing dam too. But our friend down the road lost a couple sheep and had to put down a horse who panicked and went through a fence, and both her neighbours have flooded houses. So I consider us very lucky.
ReplyDeleteHi, Just got back from your beautiful part of the world yesterday. Last Sunday wasn't bad in the rain stakes either. We were in Rotorua, and I don't think I've ever seen so much rain fall for so long ever!
ReplyDeleteWow- that's a downpour. Pleased that everything is safe and sound.
ReplyDeletems lottie, that's sad about the horse. I'm sure I'd be 'bawling' my eyes out. Maa
Hi Pilgrimscottage
ReplyDeleteThe hibiscus was a gift out of someone's garden - I had no idea what it would look like in flower so a nice surprise!
Hi Ms Lottie, yes all that damage to other people's places makes me realise how lucky we are too.
Hi Paola, lovely to hear from you! Glad you saw Rotorua hope you enjoyed it, I like that area there's so much to do and it's just so different. Yes lots of water wasn't there!
That is a HUGE amont of rain !
ReplyDeleteJEalous of you hibiscus - a childhood favourite :)
Hi Maa, yes it was a downpour alright!
ReplyDeleteHi Killcrankie Farm
I'd love to have more hibiscus plants when we finally have a proper flower garden! Everything is in pots at present.
I have only just heard about the cyclone over North Island. The news has all been Yasi here. We have had high temperatures for a week. Phew! Steaming!
ReplyDeleteHi Dr Mum
ReplyDeleteYes Cyclone Yasi is a big one isn't it, hope it soon passes.
Has been humid here since the rain.
