Blossom time

The first of the fruit trees in our stonefruit orchard are in blossom. This is one of our almond trees, and don't the bees just love it.

This was the little tree that we got our first harvest of almonds from last season. Hoping we will get a good crop this season!

Nice isn't it to see this activity in the garden, good reminder Spring's nearly here.

Yes indeed! We also have a lovely kowhai in full flower at the bottom of our property too.

The first blossom is SO EXCITING! My almonds only have a few flowers on them this year though. I put in a second tree last year in the hope that they would fertilise each other but for some reason neither has much in the way of blossom this year. Hopefully it's just a rest year and they'll be back on form next spring.

Hi Ruth, hope your almond/s do better next season. The variety we planted is called Monovale which is self-fertile. Maybe we're just lucky with getting it in the right spot!

So much hope and promise in those blossoms!! And hooray for bees. We planted tomatillos for the first time this year and they are loaded with blossoms. The bees are going wild over it. That alone is reason to plant if it you ask me...and maybe we'll get some tomatillos, too!
