Kereru feeding on ?elderberry

This pic taken in a local carpark, does anyone know if the plant is elderberry? or something else maybe? (click on pic to make it bigger). The kereru (wood pidgeon) was really enjoying the berries. (since found out it is Tree Privet).

It's certainly not the elderberry I know in the N Hemisphere. By the look of the leaves it could be some sort of laurel and so quite possibly poisonous to humans. But I am only guessing.

Hi Rosie
After searching the web I found it was Tree Privet from China, a weedy tree, with poisonous berries!
Won't be turning this into a beverage!!
